Setting the Broken

Devastation, heartache, pain, suffering. Those words associate with the world that we know and leave us with a longing for something more. As you see the devastation around you, does your heart break? As you look at the twisted trees and missing forests, do you wish that disasters never happened? The reason that you have these desires is that you were created for a world where there is no devastation, heartache, pain, disappointment, and suffering.

King Agur, son of Jakeh, wrote Proverbs 30. In that proverb, there is a riddle that is left unanswered until we encounter a man named Jesus. There is one particular moment where the mystery of the proverb is answered – Mark 4:35 – 5:43. Jesus calms a raging storm on a sea, and then the disciples ask the same question that King Agur asked in Proverbs 30, “Who then is this that even the winds and the sea obey?” Jesus goes on to heal a demon-possessed man, heal a woman with an issue of blood, and finally raises a little girl back to life from the dead. Who then is this? What is his name? His name is Jesus, and he has all power and authority. He has come into our broken world to set it right again.

Lord Jesus, thank you for showing us that there is more. Help me to long for the more that you offer. May I never be satisfied with less than all of you.
